The subject of this painting is Jim Jim Falls, Kakadu National Park, in the Northern Territory of Australia. It’s from a photo and a memory of when I visited this wild place in 2000. Our tour group swam down a creek to get to the falls, it was black, you couldn’t see or touch the bottom. And there were signs saying “Beware crocodiles”! Our tour guide assured us that it was perfectly safe and no crocs had been sighted for 30 years. So we swam and enjoyed the falls unscathed. However, several months later I saw in the news that Jim Jim falls was closed to the public due to crocodiles being sighted!
